Commercials IN YOUR MIND

I was right about feeling better yesterday. I totally missed my blog post, but I was tired, dammit, I couldn’t do it.

Anyway, I managed to pick up some LED glowsticks and flashing batons (we never ended up using the flashing batons) which produced some pretty awesome imagery. Here you go:

First LED glowstick shot!

Playing WITH traffic!

Still playing with traffic!

Go nuts.

Too good.

And the LED’s have…GASP…BLINKING SETTINGS!

Weee!

Wup wup

And then we busted the lighters out. Fire!

This would’ve been near-perfect if the lighter on the left didn’t die from wind.

OHGODLIGHTNINGHITMYCHEST

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Moon/streetlight squigglies!

Lights zapping one another.

Zoom-PSHYEW!

It’s like a light spiral into a cloud of light dust.

On an unrelated-yet-still-kinda-related note: I love wifi. I’m eating pizza and baked mac n’ cheese while uploading these. Technology rules!

No photos tonight.

I managed to get a total of 9 photos today, and none of them were even in my favorite genre of photography. They’re just random photos taken just cause I felt I needed to take a useless photo (if it’s arguable that any photo is useless, ever). Just been a real blah day. Haven’t been feeling any emotions. I feel like cardboard. I’m sure tomorrow will be better.

LIGHTPAINTINGLIGHTPAINTINGLIGHTPAINTING

The more I paint with light, the more I love it. The more I paint with light, the more I realize how hard it is to make a boring photo. The more I paint with light, the more I realize how it’s impossible to get the same photo twice– when you take that photo, it is YOURS, and truly YOUR original creation. It’s your canvas. It’s painting. But it’s with light. And I love it.

The first picture I’ve ever taken light painting with glowsticks.

There’s something about this photo that stands out to me. Those specific motions combined with the cool-colored light (except for the red dot, which is the standby light on my stereo)…just so good. Really good. Plus you can see my torso lit up. I really like this one.

Squigglies!

I tried to keep them somewhat symmetrical.

Almost looks like it could be a metroid. Of awesome. And color.

This is another of my favorites of tonight’s shoot. I used a tri-color glowstick. Love it.

Woo!

Rainbow-y!

More rainbow-y-ness!

It’s like a light-painted smiling face! :)

And here are some slightly kinetic photos from earlier (still mostly just light painting), while waiting for the bus and after I got off at my stop:

It’s like handwriting!

Woo, more handwriting-esque stuff!

The light on the right almost looks like it could be lightning arcing to a point. The lights to the left almost look like they’re emanating off to the sky. Wee!

I wanted to get a freeze painting (my own term. when you use flash to freeze the setting, then paint light over it) but then I thought the bus driver would get a little suspicious of the flash. I still like this.

Some fun with the traffic lights at the top of my street.

Almost like deformed wishbones.

Yay! Rotate-y goodness.

LED palm tree and flamingo from the backyard. Woo!

Yay!

I still can’t get over how awesome this stuff is. So much possibility…

Kinetic photography and light painting!

I’ve finally discovered the official names of the kind of photos I’ve been shooting, and I can’t be happier about it. I knew I couldn’t be the only one to do this. I found some pretty impressive stuff, which gave me a few nice ideas. Unfortunately until now I didn’t realize that I acutally have a bag of glowsticks RIGHT behind me. The green effect photos which follow were done with a green laser pointer (except for this very first one, right here).

Spiraly vortex of green equalizer hat awesomeness.

Squiggly arc.

Random randomness.

Cool lines.

…I forget what I was trying to do with this.

Obligatory.

FAN BLADES! (and cage. mostly cage) I should’ve turned the fan on.

As it was dark and I have no tripod, the result is a blurry doorknob shot.

Stickman!

While I love light-painting now (and now realizing I actually have glowsticks it’s gonna get SOO much cooler), here are some kinetic photography shots.

A shot of my computer desk, with the laptop and secondary monitor on.

I love bending lamp light :D

Cool lamp blow-up. Or close-up. I’m not sure what to call something like this. It’s not really an inset, and it’s zoomed, but…not. Weird.

OHMYGODFIRE oh wait. It’s just kinetic photography.

I love this style of photography so much. SO MUCH. There’s so much creativity in it. There’s no specific rules of how to do it, except slow shutter speeds. My anticipated favorite part of this will be nightlife. Getting a picture of a crowd with light bending all around them. I can envision it now.

Anyway, schoolwork beckons my attention. Todd out.

Nothing like youtubepoop!

You know those stupidly awesome tunes that infect your brain? Well..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6RDoH0DGt8

All it is is a sample of “NEIN” from Inglorious Basterds plastered over a theme song from the kirby series. My god. So ridiculous.

I’m tired. I’m going to bed. I love open lens photos.

Nothing to say about these other than I LOVE THEM. (click to enlarge. i highly recommend you do)

Cool fanlight blur

Playing with light-bending and blackwater

More light bending!

Infinite mirror + Open lens shot = my pants _______

I don’t know why this looks so creepily awesome, but I have a feeling it has something to do with opens lens shooting.

Again, the bending light just makes the picture totally awesome. After it teams up with le kyle blackwater.

This is my blurry reference picture for the next few. Moon behind clouds. Get ready for the awesome:

Is there anything NOT awesome about open-lens shooting? NO

OK, now I’m seriously going to bed, after this last picture:

Did I say I LOVED open-lens shooting? Because I love it.

peace out

You know what they say: big tires, small..what?

Not really sure if this applies here. Not much to say about this, other that it’s totally random and hilarious.

Using pre-made theme packs

I’ve always found using those theme packs given to you by websites was a cheap way out of actually putting effort into whatever you’re maintaining. I’m alluding to myself a while back when I ran several different freewebs pages which failed pretty hard…and when I say failed, I mean failed. Not only by content, but because it  screamed at whoever tried to access it (horrible javascripts following the cursor, stupid page sounds and just general cluttered badnessofeverythingohmygoditwassohorrific). The only thing that was really interesting about the site was…er…well, I can’t even think of anything interesting. I guess I should say the only good thing about the site was the pre-made theme pack.

Although I’m doing the exact same thing here. Maybe I should make my own theme.

Next step: learning photoshop.

[EDIT: I realized I'm going to make an effort to include a picture with every blog post. So here we go.]

So I guess this is it.

After years of totally avoiding blogging, I’ve finally caved to the creature and stole his couch.

Feels…like…I think I like it.
